Hotels and Accommodation in Jimma
Ethiopia's coffee capital — in the heart of the Kaffa highlands
Welcome to Jimma
Jimma is the largest city in southwestern Ethiopia and the commercial capital of Oromia's coffee belt — the very region where Coffea arabica is believed to have been first discovered in the wild. The surrounding highlands are covered in coffee forests where wild coffee plants still grow beneath a canopy of shade trees. For coffee enthusiasts, Jimma and the Kaffa region are the source, and visiting the coffee origin is a genuine and growing form of specialist tourism.
The city has a significant university (Jimma University — one of Ethiopia's largest) which creates a young, educated population and a lively local café and restaurant scene. A former sultanate capital, Jimma also has historical sites including the palace of Sultan Abba Jifar II.
Accommodation in Jimma serves primarily domestic business travellers, government visitors and university-related stays. Hotel infrastructure is solid but unspectacular.

Mid-range business hotels, university-area guesthouses and budget stays across Jimma's coffee-belt capital.
Best time to visit Jimma
October through February is the best window — drier weather, comfortable highland temperatures and the tail end of the coffee harvest. The main rains fall June–September and can make rural coffee-forest visits muddy. Coffee harvest season (October–December) is the most rewarding time for origin tourism.
