Eco lodges, safari lodges and tented camps in Ethiopia
Ethiopia's wildlife and landscapes are extraordinary — and the small but growing eco-lodge sector lets you see them without the carbon footprint. Every lodge in this collection has been verified for sustainability claims.
What 'eco' means on Ethiopia Bookings
We don't accept self-declared sustainability — properties in this collection have been visited and assessed against criteria including renewable energy use, water conservation, local hiring, community fee structures and waste management.
- Solar / hybrid energy as primary power source
- At least 80% local hiring with documented training
- Direct community fee payments where applicable
- Demonstrable waste and water management practices
Where Ethiopia's eco-lodges cluster
The richest eco-lodge inventory is in the Bale Mountains, the Omo Valley, Awash and along the Rift Valley lakes. Smaller forest and birdwatching lodges are scattered around Lake Tana and the southern coffee region.
