Our story
Ethiopia Bookings was built because Ethiopia deserves better. Ethiopia has nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites, one of the world's oldest Christian traditions, a national airline connecting Addis Ababa to 125 international destinations, and some of the most extraordinary landscapes, cultures and historical sites anywhere in Africa. It also has an accommodation market that is fragmented, poorly represented online, and poorly served by global booking platforms that were built for a different kind of travel.
Global OTAs like Booking.com and Agoda list some Ethiopian hotels. But they list only the minority that have navigated a self-serve registration process designed for Western hotel operators. They offer no Amharic language support. They do not accept Telebirr or other local payment methods. They have no local team to verify properties, assist smaller accommodation providers, or resolve disputes between Ethiopian hosts and guests. And they do not capture the full, diverse reality of Ethiopian accommodation — from the guesthouses of Lalibela to the crater lake resorts of Bishoftu to the heritage houses of Harar.
We built Ethiopia Bookings to change this. Our mission is simple: to list, verify and make bookable every worthwhile accommodation property in Ethiopia — and to build the trust infrastructure that lets every traveller, from Washington to Addis Ababa to Gondar, book with confidence.
What we do differently
We go to properties
Our local team physically visits and verifies accommodation before awarding a verified badge. We photograph the rooms, confirm the rates, check the WiFi and meet the team.
We onboard smaller properties
Many of Ethiopia's best guesthouses and lodges have never had a professional digital listing. We provide photography, description writing and dashboard training to get them online.
We speak both languages
The platform works in English and Amharic — for every kind of Ethiopian traveller.
We accept Ethiopian payments
Telebirr, CBE Birr and mobile banking for domestic users. International card for visitors and diaspora. The right payment method for every booking.
We provide local support
Our customer service team is based in Ethiopia, speaks Amharic and English, and is available via WhatsApp, phone and email. When something goes wrong — and occasionally it will — we are here.

Ethiopia Bookings is run by a team based between Addis Ababa and our international base. Our Addis team manages property onboarding, verification, customer support and property relations. Our technology team manages the platform, SEO and digital marketing.
